These Marines deployed together on two combat tours: first to Al Anbar Province, Iraq, in 2007, and later to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in 2008. Each of the founding members of the After Action Battalion is a recipient of the Purple Heart, having sustained severe, life-threatening combat injuries during these deployments.

Following their own recoveries at military treatment facilities across the country, the founders gained firsthand experience with the physical, emotional, and mental challenges that accompany traumatic injury. They understand not only the shock and uncertainty that follow a life-changing wound, but also the courage, perseverance, and determination required to navigate the long road to recovery.

When reflecting on the most meaningful moments of their own healing journeys, the founders consistently recall the compassion, encouragement, and support they received from family members, fellow service members, caregivers, and veteran-serving organizations. Those experiences inspired them to establish the After Action Battalion with a simple mission: to pay that support forward.

Drawing upon their collective experiences and deep understanding of the recovery process, the founders are committed to helping newly injured service members and their families navigate the challenges ahead. By providing practical assistance, mentorship, encouragement, and connection, the After Action Battalion strives to deliver the same types of support that made a lasting difference in their own recoveries.
